Our Department Ever since the establishment of the college, the people of the entire region had been aspiring for a department of provide the teaching of a language that had been vox populi of many of many of their kin in 1990-91 offering B A Degree and MA . Arabic has been here for centuries, offered first by Arab and then Islamic missionaries. Even as the Arabic language was gaining foothold, a syncretistic culture was evolving. The pleas of the people were justified when thousands of youth were preparing to go to Arab countries in search of livelihood The teaching faculty of the department was comprised of learned scholars, and they produced commendable result since the start. Now the department has four lecturers who are very active in academic and other fields. The Department is proud to add in our merit list the name of Sri. K. Abdul Razak, who is the vise-principal of the college. Mr. K Abdusamad and Mr. O.K. Hassan who were transferred last year, and the incumbents Mr. M.Kunhimoideen kutty , Mr. S.Aboobacker had served as member of the board of studies of calicut university,Mr. Abdul raheem,Miss. Jowhara, Missis.Ayisha,Mr. Fazludheen and Mr.Zubair were instrumental in bringing about drastic changes in the syllabus with the inclusion of socially. Relevant issues and environmental studies in it. All the teachers in the department gives special attention to cater the needs of the students through personal counseling aimed at reducing the failure rate. All the serving teachers had, at one time or the other, been N.S.S. programme officers And Mr.K.Abdul Razak and Mr.Kunhimoideen Kutty are the present programme officers. The later is also the convener of Career Guidance and placement sell Sri. V.P Babu of our department is a member of college development committee, and returning officer of the College Union Election. He was also a member in the board of studies of M.G University.The faculty members render free consultancy service to outside community and translate for them materials from and to Arabic. And this is thankfully acknowledged by the diaspora as a great service. Some of the faculty members are also the members of the board of studies of kerala and M.G Universities. They have contributed extensively for the restructuring of the P.G Syllabus of Kerala University. We have at present 96 students and of them 63.5% are women. This is a pointer to the growing externalization of women in the society. It is a great pleasure that 20% of the students hail from the fisherman community with whom we have good rapport. Assignment, test papers and seminar are being used as a part of continuous assessment and evolution. The percentage of success among all section of the students is on the increase, thanks to remedial teaching pursued since the last few years. Enviable result adorns the department. Last year all the three ranks in B.A Arabic were bagged by our students. The success of the department lies in its graduates' careers. A minimum of 50% of successful male students work abroad. There are teachers. Lawyers and businessmen among them. At least 50% of the women graduates works as school teachers. The department arranges placement for outstanding students and also gives guidance regarding higher studies on a regular basis. A good department library with 1150 volumes in an asset of which 500 titles were added during the last 5 years. A few journals have also been made available. Computer facility is provided in the Department, intending to develop communicative skills. The language and computers labs and the audio-visual devices are of great help to students. Those aspirants from diaspora are given special attention with short term course in translation to and from Arabic.
